Anchorage AK
Up at 7, I didn’t sleep a lot! much too excited. I’ll soon be home and I can hardly wait for that to happen. Sorted out final packing, went and posted the tent for $5 2c, the guy at the counter gave me $1 towards it and I used two 13c stamps I had (I’m now down to $1 96c). Back at the ‘Parle vou Francais’ bakery it was goodbye to Paul Fletcher and Paul Claxton and farewell pictures. The airport bus journey went OK, I arrived at 10.45am – the airport procedures were normal and we took off on time.
I had a window seat, but cloud prevented a ground view, although I did get a picture of Mt McKinley protruding above the clouds as my final farewell to ALASKA! I’d spent 75c on the bus fare and 25c on a card to my friend Walter Stolle (a well known world bicycle traveller) plus 28c for the stamp, which left me with precisely 68c. ‘PHEW’. The flight was interesting from a time point of view, starting in daylight and sunshine, but over a period of 4hrs flying away from the sun into darkness for 7 hours. It lead to approaching LONDON to a rising sun and the end of a challenge met and conquered.
